Seal Script · Yang Wanli, The Small Pond

A poem of summer. The twenty-eight characters are split across two panels — the right one carries 'The spring mouth runs silent, sparing its thin stream; the shade of the tree loves the water's soft light', the left one 'A tender lotus shows its pointed tip — and already a dragonfly has settled on it'. Hung together, the two make the whole poem.
